December 6 was Allison's 12th Birthday. Such an important day in the life of a young woman. And that was the best thing about her birthday, she got to join the young women's organization. Her birthday happened to be on Sunday so she got to go to YW on her birthday. It was also Fast Sunday so she bore her testimony in Sac. meeting which was a goal she had. She is really quite shy so it was a little hard for her but she did it and received many beautiful compliments. Sadly, I missed it. The weather was REALLY bad. Mike and Alli had gone early and when I went to take the rest of the kids, the van just couldn't handle the slippery roads. We waited a couple hours with some sunshine and were able to get out of our neighborhood and to church for the last hour. Anyway, back to Alli :)

Allison is an amazing child. She is more mature than a lot of adults I know and is such a tremendous blessing to our family. Allison is quick to help where ever she sees and need and is often the favorite of her younger siblings. What is amazing to me is that she sees what needs to be done and just does it. So few people are even able to see what needs to be done and even fewer are willing to do it when they see that need but Allison is just really extraordinary!
She is such a fun girl too. She loves to play and laugh and has such a contagious laugh. We love how she can make a sad person smile and laugh.
Allison is also very smart. She is such a delight to home school because she is so independent. She gets all of her work done quickly and then often will ask for more assignments. Whenever she disappears, you can find her in her room reading. I think that is probably her favorite thing to do. The one challenge I have with her is keeping enough good books around for her to read. She will pick up a huge book (like the Undaunted which she got for her birthday) and have the whole thing read in 2 or 3 days. When we go to the library, I always have her get about 5 books so that she won't run out before the next weeks trip to the Library.
Allison's special birthday dinner.
Opening a plethora of gifts, many of which were earrings and gum (We aren't aloud to chew gum until we're 12)
Allison's one activity request was to decorate for Christmas so that is what we did.
A few days later, when we were doing some Christmas shopping, Allison got her most anticipated birthday gift. She got her ears pierced!
Allison is a great blessing and we are so thankful to have her in our family and a celebration of her birth is a true celebration of life!
